While I have not smelt the original By The Fireplace, I do have a bottle of Jazz Club, which I knowing shares similar notes and accords. It was actually these similarities, as well as a recommendation from Marlo, that led me to choosing Cindervale. I won't comment on its accuracy to the original, as I just don't know. Instead I will just talk about my thoughts on it.
It smells fantastic, with the same sweet and woody accords as Jazz Club, but still having its own identity by adding that slightly smoky scent into the mix. It's masculine but in a gentlemanly way. Think speakeasy, rather than rugged lumberjack. I don't find it to be cloying like some other similiar smelling fragrances might be, and have been able to wear it in the office without complaint. In fact, it's been the opposite. I have had a number of compliments from colleagues, both men and women.
I'm a five spray guy. One on each side of the neck behind the ears, one at the base of the throat, and one on each wrist. With just those five sprays, it'll last all day at work, and them some, without needing to reapply. If you find it isn't lasting, it may be an application issue, rather than a product issue. Hope this helps anyone on the fence about buying.
